Racing driver Rainer Zietlow has managed the challenge to drive from northern Norway to southern Africa in less than 22 days (21 days and 16 hours). During the journey of more than 17,000 kilometers driven has only one set of Goodyear Wrangler tires used.
Rainer Zietlow and his team Challenge4 has set a new world record for the fastest car ride from North Cape in Norway to Cape Agulhas in South Africa. Their Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI was equipped with Goodyear Wrangler HP tires for SUV and 4X4 vehicles. They finished the trip at 17,752 kilometers in a record time of 21 days and 16 hours. The team started its journey from Norway, September 21, 2014 and beat the existing world record of 28 days, from the North Cape to Cape Agulhas.
Record-breaking attempt was delayed after an incident in Tanzania where the car was damaged by a collision with another vehicle, which led to repairs in 13 days. If the incident had occurred in Tanzania estimated the team completing the challenge in 8 days and 10 hours.
Rainer and his team used only one set of
Goodyear Wrangler HP tires on the trip that included challenging terrain and extreme weather conditions, including floods, mud and off-road driving. The equipment has thus been put to the test in each stage of the 17,752 km-long journey.
- Goodyear Wrangler tires was undoubtedly the tires that were the best fit for Rainers VW Touareg V6 TDI. We are very proud to have helped Challenge4 team to cope with this amazing challenge. The world record, we have proven that our passion along with a hundred years of innovation with a focus on increased security leads to success, says Hans Vrijsen, Marketing Director EMEA.
- We have had access to exceptional equipment, which has been a major contributing reason for the trip from Norway to South Africa has become so successful. Passing through different climate zones and meet different kinds of challenges, not least when the car needed to be repaired after our unfortunate collision in Tanzania, has been the ultimate test for the Touareg and the Goodyear Wrangler HP tires for SUV and 4X4 vehicles. Both lived up to expectations, proving their quality and endurance, adds Rainer Zietlow.
Zietlow and his Challenge4 team will now participate in a series of international fairs through Africa, the Middle East and Europe, where they will present the equipment used for the world record attempt.
Zietlow will donate 20 Euro cents per kilometer to SOS Children's Villages in Zambia and Sudan. Although Goodyear will donate money by doubling the amount donated by Zietlow.
